Exciting Paid Research Opportunity! Nutritional Assessment of Maine’s Elders using a Validated Tool.
Did you know that Maine is the oldest state in the nation? Did you know that by the year 2020 it is estimated that the number of people in the world that are 65 years or older will, for the first time in human history, outnumber those that are five years old or younger? Did you know that UNE has a new Center for Excellence in Aging and Health? Now that you know, how would you like to become a part of work that seeks to improve the health status of this growing vulnerable population?
An exciting opportunity exists for you to become involved in a funded research study that will look at the nutritional status of Maine’s elders living in long-term care facilities. The project will use a validated tool to test its efficacy among our population. As an MPH student, you will get to work with students from other UNE colleges gathering and interpreting data. Students will be trained prior to the start of data collection on IRB fundamentals, field data collection best practices, interview techniques, and clinical data abstraction. You will also get familiar with the validated assessment tool and will have opportunities to share as part of reflection groups.
We are seeking four (4) MPH students to become involved in this funded research project as Graduate Research Assistants. The project is scheduled to start in June 2018 with an anticipated end date in August 2019. You will be reimbursed travel expenses incurred to collect data at our sites in Portland and Biddeford, Maine.
Interested? Please send your questions, resume and a brief statement outlining your interest to the Principal Investigator, Carol Ewan Whyte (GPPH’s Research and Service Coordinator) at cewanwhyte@une.edu. The deadline for applying is May 23, 2018.
This project is funded by UNE’s Center for Aging and Health through the UNE 2018 Mini Grant Program.
