Job Opportunity: MPH Student Research Assistant Position
Project: UNE Primary Care Training and Enhancement (PCTE) grant
Description: UNE’s Center for Excellence in Health Innovation received funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration to partner with Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) to transform the primary care workforce in rural and underserved Maine and improve health outcomes. Over the course of this five-year grant (currently in Year 3), UNE medical, physician assistant, and pharmacy students will train together at PCHC, learning the skills needed for team-based care, social determinants of health, oral health knowledge, health literacy, and shared decision making with patients.
The Research Assistant (RA) works as part of the UNE PCTE team that includes a Program Manager, Program Assistant, Educators, and Evaluators. The RA supports the UNE team in various functions including: conducting literature reviews, transcribing and organization of case study data, data entry, analysis of Electronic Health Record and other clinical and public health data, preparing/editing reports, and meeting coordination.
Location: Preferably UNE (Portland campus), with occasional travel to PCHC in Brewer, Maine. If Research Assistant does not live locally, conference calls will be used as much as possible.
Timeframe: This is a part-time grant funded position, up to 20 hours/week. A start date of May 6, 2019 is desired.
Pay: $15/hour.
Responsibilities: Under general supervision, activities and responsibilities of the Research Assistant position include:
- Review, compile, and summarize online and library literature searches, and prepare summaries of pertinent articles;
- Assist with preparation of qualitative and quantitative instruments, i.e., discussion guides, surveys;
- Assist with collection, transcribing/data entry, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, i.e., focus groups, interviews, surveys with project stakeholders; de-identified patient Electronic Health Record and other clinical and public health data;
- Format, edit, and produce project reports, data briefs, posters and presentations for lay and professional audiences;
- Maintain task list with due dates.
The following skill sets are desirable for this position:
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SurveyMonkey, familiarity with SPSS a plus;
- Knowledge of primary care, social determinants of health, and population health approaches for community/clinical linkages.
