New Interprofessional Learning Opportunity – UNE CUP AHEC Scholar Program
GPPH has a great new interprofessional learning opportunity for local scholars!
UNE’s Center for Excellence in Health Innovation (http://www.une.edu/academics/centers-institutes/center-excellence-health-innovation), the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) (http://www.une.edu/wchp/ipec), and the Maine AHEC Network (https://www.une.edu/ahec) are coordinating offerings in underserved care and presenting them to qualified and interested UNE health professions students in order to further develop interprofessional knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to care for underserved patients as well as to recognize student accomplishments and encourage students to seek future positions in the care of the underserved.
Program Information
The UNE Care for the Underserved Pathway (CUP) AHEC Scholar Program is an Honors Distinction program for UNE health professions students. In this program, students from different disciplines, including osteopathic medicine, dental medicine, PT, pharmacy, and MSW, work together in order to become better prepared to care for underserved populations.
The CUP AHEC Scholar program consists of monthly meetings throughout the fall and spring semesters, as well as a variety of other on and off-campus learning activities. The culminating learning activity is performing a practical experience in Maine in order to complete this program. In order to graduate with a Distinction in Caring for the Underserved, scholars are expected to routinely participate in activities located on UNE’s Biddeford and Portland campuses and to maintain a solid academic record. Due to the program requirements, participating students must be able to attend all meetings and learning activities in person.
