Apply Grading Recommendation Assessment Development Evaluation (GRADE) criteria to selection, evaluation, and abstracting of studies to be included in a review supporting American Cancer Society cancer screening guideline development. Create data summary tables and narrative summaries of selected studies as needed.
Under supervision and as review team member, contribute to an evidence review for the colorectal cancer screening guideline update, through review of title, abstract, and full-text screening and selection, methodologic evaluation, and abstracting.
• Translate scientific evidence into concise summaries, based on methodologic evaluation of studies and reported of intervention outcomes (benefits and harms), and create GRADE summary tables and narrative descriptions.
• Assist with preparation of materials for guideline development team and committee as needed (e.g., create PowerPoint slides, figures and tables in Excel)
• Occasional attendance at guideline development and cancer screening team meetings will be expected.
Position Requirements
Formal Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of cancer epidemiology, biostatistics and cancer screening principles.
PhD and or MPH
Oral and written communications skills, proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and EndNote. Experience in searching scientific literature e.g. PubMed database. Some background knowledge of cancer prevention and control, including cancer screening for major cancer sites (colorectal, breast, lung, prostate). Knowledge of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) requirements for evidence review reporting.
Specialized Training and Knowledge: Knowledge of public health and experience in research, particularly methodologic evaluation of studies and abstracting.
All Interns Must meet the following requirements:
•Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college;
•Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);
•Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
oNote: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation.
