Position Title: Health justice practicum opportunity
Start date: Immediately

Compensation (If any): Small stipend possible
Description of Practicum Project: Research and analyze data regarding the public health benefits of testing all Maine children for lead poisoning.
Tasks: The student will work with public health and affordable housing practitioners to research, analyze and present data for consumption by state lawmakers, media and the public, as new legislation is considered that would require universal testing of Maine children for lead poisoning.
Requirements: Research and writing skills; ability to translate data into information that is easily accessible and understandable to lawmakers, media and the general public.

Other comments: Maine advocates are at the forefront of efforts to improve state and federal laws to better protect children from the irreversible effects of lead poisoning. We would like to work with a practicum student to help us move forward in further engaging a state legislature that is increasingly committed to better addressing this tragic and costly public health problem.

- The UNE MPH Program requires a minimum of 120 hours at the practicum site OR the completion of two (2) high quality products by the student.
- An Affiliation Agreement must be completed between UNE and the practicum site before the student can start counting hours for credit.
