Practicum Information
Position Title: Emergency Management Practical Experience
Start date: August 2017

Description of Practicum Projects: The MPH Practicum student will assist with planning, operations, logistics, and evaluation of two major public health preparedness events in southern Maine.
- The first, a Point of Dispensing, event will be organized with City of Portland – Maine Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) and UNE’s Center for Excellence in Health Innovation (CEHI) to dispense medications in response to a simulated public health emergency.
- The second, an Alternate Care Site, will be organized with the Maine CDC and UNE’s CEHI to test Maine’s medical surge capabilities in the case of a serious mass casualty incident that would overwhelm the area health centers and result in the need to set up an alternate care site.
Tasks:
- Maintain meeting minutes for monthly meetings for both exercises
- Develop a work plan for the October POD training
- Develop a work plan for the October ACS training
- Work with Maine CDC for transportation of supplies to both trainings
- Develop promotional materials for within and outside UNE community for both trainings
- Develop security plan for both trainings
- Work with local Medical Reserve Corps to bolster interest on the UNE campus
- Develop evaluation materials for each training
