Service Opportunity – Harris County, TX
Harris County Public Health is constantly seeking new ways to bring public health to the public! On Saturday, March 16, 2019, our department is hosting a Mobile Health Village from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center (8440 Greenhouse Rd. Cypress, Texas 77433). Our Mobile Events Planning Team has conducted a needs assessment for the Precinct 3 area in an effort to provide services most beneficial to our community members nearby. All 7 of our mobile units will be in attendance providing flu shots, fun activities for children & seniors, raffles, pet vaccines, free food, mosquito education and more!
We know this event is occurring during spring break, but would love for you to share with your students. **Bilingual volunteers are STRONGLY encouraged to participate!**

VOLUNTEER SHIFT: 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
LOCATION: Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center (8440 Greenhouse Rd. Cypress, Texas 77433)
ATTIRE: Volunteers will be given a HCPH volunteer t-shirt to wear during the event. Please be sure to indicate your size on the sign up link!
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS: Volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
• Just Dance Gaming Area & Virtual Reality Experience
Volunteer to assist adults in a virtual reality experience and have fun with children playing Just Dance!
Note: Just Dance volunteers must know how to work an X-box controller
• Food Distribution, Nutrition Education, & the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program
o We will distribute food to the community via our Mobile Nutrition & Education Unit
o The WIC program will share nutrition education for pregnant women and children under the age of 5
• Animal Wellness Area
o Volunteers will help with animal registration and assist with crowd control
• Dental Health Area
o Bilingual volunteers needed to share oral hygiene tools with students
• Face Painting & Children’s Play Area
o Fun opportunity to engage with children!
• Mosquito & Vector Control
o Assist with tours of the Mosquito Control museum on wheels!!
• Health Impact Team (Child Lead Poisoning, Obesity Reduction, Tobacco Cessation)
o Come help the team provide health education to the community
• Environmental Health Unit
o The Environmental Public Health team would love you to assist them in providing food safety education, discussing water safety, and all of the amazing community services provided by their team.
