SIS is seeking a Technical Writer in anticipation of an upcoming contract to provide support services to advance CDC’s work in conducting the Violence Against Children Surveys (VACS) in priority countries. The position shall have a working knowledge of scientific issues relevant to violence prevention or vulnerable children and can assist with developing and editing technical documents.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and edit technical documents to accurately communicate scientific and public health information to various audiences, including editing, publication development, and communications planning activities for VACS documents, publications, and reports
• Participate in all aspects of development, writing, editing, clearance, and production of VACS country reports and other VACS publications
• Develop CDC-published materials, including science briefs, fact sheets, and summaries of scientific work
• Develop supportive materials for VACS planning, such as IRB protocols
• Develop charts and graphics to illustrate material and content
• Coordinate the design and layout process with graphic designers
• Work collaboratively with all internal and external partners, including in-country partners and representatives, to develop, review, revise, and produce VACS reports and publications
• Edit, standardize, and make changes to scientific and technical documents prepared by other writers and division staff
• Follow CDC’s guidelines for timely clearance and review of documents and negotiate timelines with authors and reviewing officials as needed
• Edit and revise documents and publications to ensure the writing is clear, concise, grammatically correct, well-organized, free of jargon, and consistent with the principles of good composition
• As needed, participate in travel to work with partners on development and revisions for VACS publications
Qualifications
Requirements and Experience:
• Master’s degree in English, communications, public health, or related field
• 5+ years of experience writing and editing publications
Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to analyze, synthesize, and condense research findings In support of the mission of DVP, the contracting staff shall travel up to 25% time to participate in site visits, trainings, and other relevant project activities.
