Volunteer Opportunity – Harris County, TX – Saturday, December 1, 2018
Harris County Public Health is constantly seeking new ways to bring public health to the public! On Saturday, December 1, 2018, our department is hosting a Mobile Health Village from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Michael Null Middle School (12117 Garret Road, Houston, Texas 77044). Our Mobile Events Planning Team has conducted a needs assessment for the Precinct1 area in an effort to provide services most beneficial to our community members nearby. All seven of our mobile units will be in attendance providing flu shots, fun activities for children & seniors, raffles, pet vaccines, free food, mosquito education and more!
GPPH students are welcome to volunteer alongside the staff for this important event.

Time: Two volunteer shifts are available:
- Shift 1: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Shift 2: 11:00 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Volunteer Positions: Volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
- Just Dance Gaming Area & Virtual Reality Experience
- Volunteer to assist adults gain participate in a virtual reality experience, and have fun with children playing Just Dance!
- Note: Just Dance volunteers must know how to work an X-box controller
- Volunteer to assist adults gain participate in a virtual reality experience, and have fun with children playing Just Dance!
- Food Distribution, Nutrition Education, & the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program
- We will distribute food to the community via our Mobile Nutrition & Education Unit
- The WIC program will share nutrition education for pregnant women and children under the age of 5
- Animal Wellness Area
- Volunteers will help with animal registration and assist with crowd control
- Dental Health Area
- Bilingual volunteers needed to share oral hygiene tools with students
- Face Painting & Children’s Play Area
- Fun opportunity to engage with children!
- Mosquito & Vector Control
- Assist with tours of the Mosquito Control museum on wheels!!
- Health Impact Team (Child Lead Poisoning, Obesity Reduction, Tobacco Cessation)
- Come help the team provide health education to the community
- Environmental Health Unit
- The Environmental Public Health team would love you to assist them in providing holiday food safety education, discussing water safety, and all of the amazing community services provided by their team.
VOLUNTEER APPLICATION: All volunteers should have a completed Harris County Public Health Volunteer or Intern Application on file. Please visit http://hcph.vsyslive.com/pages/app:event to complete our online application. If you already have a completed volunteer or intern application on file, you do not need to do another one.
A few application pointers are below:
1 – Your User ID is any email address that you will check
2 – Feel free to select your own Password.
3 – Do not skip any item outlined in blue or red.
4 – There is a question that states, “Have you ever been convicted of an offense? (Excluding minor traffic violations).” Be sure to click NO if this doesn’t apply to you. The default on the application is set to yes.
5 – Under the Volunteer Preferences section, please select SERVICE LEARNING or EVENTS TEAM if you wish to participate in future events as well
6 – If you do not have a SSN, please contact the Interim Volunteer and Intern Coordinator (see below for contact information).
