Portland Adult Education (PAE) has provided education and workforce training to Maine's adult learners since 1850. As a department of Portland Public Schools, PAE serves approximately 2,000 adult learners (a majority non-native English speaking) annually and is the largest adult education provider in Maine.
Our students are hard workers and have to navigate several hurdles sometimes in order to flourish at school. During the internship there will be case-management duties with individual and groups of students, opportunities to connect with community organizations, participation and planning for belonging and resource workshops for our students, assistance with staff professional development, support of student ambassador program, and more.
We are looking for someone with ability to work independently and be flexible. Problem-solving and strong communication skills are necessary to navigate the school community well. We are a diverse and vibrant school. Multiculturalism and bilingualism would be very helpful in this position.
