Center for Grieving Children

Description: Our agency believes that supporting internships through our Acute Care Services programs helps to overcome myths of treating clients with suicidal thinking. Our comprehensive training and supervision will support the student in learning all areas of assessment, treatment, crisis interventions, brief treatment strategies, and crisis planning and risk management. The internship will occur at the agencies office location where they will receive opportunities for face to face interventions, peer and clinician supported services, and crisis phone management. These opportunities are supervised by a LCMHC and/or MLADC whom specializes in acute care services. Interns will learn the skill of being able to work with a diverse population group (age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status) where they will develop skills of relationship building, motivational interviewing, acute interventions, and crisis planning. Interns will also learn to perform a Crisis Assessment which involves a presenting problem, psychosocial history, treatment planning, diagnostic formulation, use standardized assessment tools, and crisis planning. Throughout the internship students will gain knowledge in appropriate documentation, New Hampshire’s hospital system and behavioral health system, community agencies and other area programs. Interns will also learn regarding evidence-based practices used at the agency and their impact on client’s. Specifically, they will work beside peers in the acute care services department due to their vital and positive impact they have provided client’s in crisis.

The program also promotes the integration of developmental skills necessary for semi or independent daily living.

Central Aroostook Association offers individualized programs designed to increase independence, improve independent functioning and independent living. The community based programs offer a variety of community inclusion activities for the individuals we serve in the adult programs. Activities include volunteering in different communities, using community facilities and gaining knowledge about the community. The pre-vocational program assists individuals with job seeking skills so they can explore employment opportunities for the type of work they would like to do.
