Description: The Children’s Center began providing family support services in Skowhegan in 2011. Based on feedback from the community, the center expanded the location in 2013 to include an autism program, behavior, support program, and special education services as well as the continuation of targeted case management and caregiver education series. The Children’s Center in Skowhegan is an early intervention and preschool education setting. Each classroom focuses upon all areas of development: cognitive, language, communication, fine and large motor, activities of daily living, emotional growth, and sensory play. An internship at through The Northern Lighthouse at Loring Job Corps Center would give you the opportunity to work with a diverse group of young adults who come from poverty, within the age range of 16-24. Students at Job Corps are in an active stage of changing their life circumstances. The role of the Campus Mental Health Consultant (the LCSW you would work under) follows an EAP model, offering short term solution focused individual support for LJCC students, mental health groups, consultation with other departments, training to staff on mental health topics, and campus wide mental health awareness promotion. MSW Generalist Year Students would engage in reviewing new LJCC student applications and supporting the new students arriving on campus (we bring new students in every week), determining appropriate accommodations for students with mental health diagnosis, give presentations to new students about mental health support services available, participate in collaboration meeting with substance abuse, medical, and career counseling staff, make referrals for off-center mental health and medication management services, update and display mental health promotion material, and plan a mental health awareness activity. MSW Specialization Year Students would engage in all the previous responsibilities with the addition of assessments for individual students and short term mental health treatment, including holding walk-in-hours.
Student applicants should have the ability to work independently but also ask for help or clarification as needed. Interns that appreciate a variety of tasks and are able to adapt to changes in schedule or priorities will do best at an internship at LJCC. An appreciation for diversity and a commitment to continual learning in cultural competency and cultural humility are critical characteristics. Strong boundaries are also essential. Creative problem solving skills to meet the unique needs of individual students is highly valued.

Description: The Trinity Jubilee Center is a secular community center located in the heart of downtown Lewiston. The Center is open six days a week and operates five programs: a soup kitchen, food pantry, day shelter, resource center, and refugee integration program. These programs provide basic necessities including food, diapers, medical attention, and winter coats, and help people navigate barriers and achieve goals including housing, immigration status adjustments, and employment. The Day Shelter and Resource Center work together to prevent and address homelessness. The Day Shelter open 7:30-3:00 Monday-Saturday year round and welcomes homeless men, women, and children inside to escape the elements, use the bathroom, eat breakfast, charge phones, and rest. The Resource Center includes a free medical clinic; access to a mailing address, phone, and printer; supplies including winter gear and toiletries; referrals for case management, visits from partner agency outreach teams, and assistance with paperwork.
